barbecue shrimp and grits

Louisiana Style Barbecue Shrimp and Grits

Everyone loves a n’awlins throw down. These bbq shrimp are sure to make you feel like you’re part of the second line. Enjoy!

 

Ingredients 

1 cup Hamilton Cornerstore Old Fashioned White Grits
4 cups water
1/4 tsp salt ( more to taste)
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
2 Tbsp butter
1 Lb peeled and deveined large shrimp
1 cup ketchup
1 small onion diced
3 garlic cloves diced
1 Tbsp fresh thyme
2 Tbsp honey
2 Tbsp sugar in raw or brown sugar
3 Tbsp apple cider vinegar
2 tsp Hamilton Cornerstore hot sauce
1/3 cup Makers Mark
Salt and pepper
1/4 tsp crushed red pepper flakes

 

Directions

Grits

Add 1 cup grits to 4 cups water. Bring to boil and the reduce to simmer for 20 min. Once cooked add cheese, butter and salt and pepper to taste.

BBQ Sauce

Add 1 Tbsp butter to pan along with onions and garlic. Sauté until translucent. Add in ketchup, bourbon, sugar, honey, thyme, apple cider vinegar, salt & pepper, red pepper flakes. Simmer until slightly thickened and all ingredients incorporated. Adjust sweetness or heat level to your liking. Add to blender and purée. If you would like a thinner bbq sauce add more bourbon or water.

Shrimp

Sauté shrimp seasoned with salt and pepper. Cook for 1-2 min on each side. Add to bbq sauce. Serve immediately with grits.
